Microbiota – road to 2026 was conceived to address these critical issues by providing gastroenterolo-gists with an updated and methodologically robust overview of the microbiota’s role in digestive health and disease. The program brings together experts from different academic centres to review current evidence on dysbiosis, the impact of commonly used medications such as antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors, and the clinical relevance of microbiota alterations in gastroesophageal reflux disea-se and other upper gastrointestinal disease, as same as bowel diseases such as irritable bowel syn-drome and other disorders of gut–brain interaction, and symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular di-sease.

Controversial topics such as sibo and imo are discussed from a rigorous clinical standpoint, with par-ticular attention to diagnostic appropriateness and therapeutic indications. Through a combination of lectures, structured discussion, and case-based analysis, the course aims to enhance participants’ ability to critically interpret emerging literature, refine diagnostic reasoning, and apply evidence-based therapeutic strategies by fostering a clear and disciplined approach to microbiota-related concepts, the initiative supports gastroenterologists in distinguishing validated clinical practices from assumptions not supported by data, thereby contributing to more accurate and effective patient management.
